Buckwheat flowers from the second half of July into September and pours out very rich nectar. A single plant forms up to 1,800 flowers, which is why it is deliberately grown as bee forage and as a catch crop. Its honey is strongly dark brown, robust in taste and reminiscent of beet syrup, and thus not to everyone's liking; unlike most blossom honeys it stays liquid. There are only a few growing regions large enough to produce a major flow.
