Goat Willow (Pussy Willow) flowers in March and April before the leaves appear and is rated very good for both nectar and pollen. It is dioecious: the yellow catkins of the male shrubs provide the pollen, the greenish female ones only nectar; for pollen supply in early spring, it is therefore the male bushes at the apiary that count. It comes up on its own on fallow ground, forest margins and embankments and flowers even as a young shrub. What comes in here goes entirely into the brood, none of it is harvested.
