The Rutabaga (Swede) is a biennial crucifer and only flowers in its second year, in May, when it is left standing for seed production. Its forage value is rated low, so nectar and pollen occur only in small amounts. In normal cultivation as a fodder or table turnip it does not even reach flowering. Botanically it belongs to Brassica napus, not Brassica rapa, even though beekeeping literature often lists it differently.
