Wild garlic flowers in May in white umbels and provides a very good pollen value; the nectar value is good in bright spots and only moderate in dense shade. It grows in riparian forests and damp deciduous woods on seepage-moist, nutrient-rich, humus-rich loam and clay soils. Because it forms large carpets, it supplies plenty of protein near woodland exactly at the time of the strongest brood build-up. The yield depends heavily on how much light falls on the stands. British measurements give around 4,472 pollen grains per flower.
