The Onion flowers from June to August, when it is left standing for seed production. Its spherical umbels provide good nectar with a medium pollen value and are gladly worked. For wild bees it is an important forage plant, and for the mask bee Hylaeus punctulatissimus it is even the exclusive forage plant. In normal vegetable cultivation it does not reach flowering.
