Sweet woodruff flowers from April to June in open deciduous woods and provides only small amounts of nectar and pollen. It is therefore out of the question as a forage source; its contribution remains modest. In beech woods, however, it grows over large areas and supplements the spring supply. Its scent only develops as it wilts. British measurements give around 1,696 pollen grains per flower.
