The Bird Cherry flowers in long white racemes in April and May, usually right after blackthorn. Both nectar and pollen value lie in the medium range, but in damp floodplains and along streams it can occur in large numbers and then produce well. It prefers seepage-moist to damp, nutrient- and base-rich, often gravelly-sandy loam and clay soils. For beekeeping it is a typical build-up flow in floodplain forests and field copses.
