Phacelia, also called lacy phacelia or bee's friend, flowers from early June to late September and is one of the most productive bee forage plants there is: both nectar and pollen are abundant. Its pollen is strikingly blue to dark grey-blue. Because it flowers on for months, it bridges the summer forage gap. It originates in the south-western United States, thrives on poor soils and gets through dry spells without trouble, which is why it is gladly sown as green manure and catch crop.
