Common Butterbur (Purple) flowers from mid-March to the end of April, still before its leaves appear, and provides plentiful nectar and plentiful pollen. It grows on stream banks, ditches and damp sites, often in large connected stands. At its flowering time the choice of forage is limited, which is why it is heavily worked. For colonies near water it is an important early flow.
