The Medlar flowers with large single white flowers in May and June and provides good nectar with a medium pollen value. It grows on moderately dry, base-rich, mostly lime-poor loam soils and traditionally stands in cottage gardens and traditional orchards. As a small tree it stays manageable and can be planted close to the apiary. For beekeeping it is a small but productive addition after the pome fruit bloom.
