The Milk Thistle flowers from July to September with large purple-red heads and is continually worked in sunshine. Both nectar and pollen value lie in the medium to good range. It grows on fresh to moderately dry, nutrient-rich soils and is cultivated both as a medicinal plant and used in flower mixes. For the apiary it is a strong summer addition that still provides nectar even in drought.
