Oregon Grape (Mahonia) flowers in yellow racemes from March to April and is thus one of the early garden shrubs. Nectar and pollen supply are both plentiful, rated medium to good. It is evergreen, undemanding, and grows even in the partial shade of trees, which is why it commonly stands in parks and home gardens. For the colony it is a pure build-up flow that secures brood build-up in early spring.
