Common Buckthorn flowers in May and June with small greenish flowers. The nectar value is medium, the pollen value low, so by itself it is not a major flow. It grows on summer-warm, moderately dry, base-rich and mostly calcareous soils on forest margins, in field copses and hedges. In species-rich hedges it supplements the summer flow together with alder buckthorn and hawthorn, extending the supply.
