Lesser Periwinkle flowers from March to June and provides good nectar with a low pollen value. It forms evergreen carpets in partial shade under woody plants and is notably low-maintenance. The flowers sit low and are used mainly by long-tongued bees and bumblebees. As an early ground-cover flow it closes the gap between the early bloomers and the fruit bloom.
