Small-flowered Mullein flowers in July and August and provides a very good pollen value with only a low nectar value. It grows on dry, poor, stony soils along roadsides, on fallow ground and rubble sites. The flowers open one after another up the spike, so pollen keeps coming for weeks. For the colony it is one of the best protein sources on dry sites in midsummer.
