St. John's Wort flowers from June to August and provides practically no nectar but very abundant pollen. It grows on fresh to moderately dry, moderately acidic soils along roadsides, on fallow ground and in perennial beds. The bees systematically work through the stamens and return home with yellow pollen loads. In practice this means: St. John's Wort stands cover protein needs but bring no weight onto the scale.
