The Carob flowers from September to November, that is towards the end of the bee year. The small reddish flowers sit directly on the trunk and old branches and have a strong smell. Locust bean gum is obtained from the seeds. For colonies in the Mediterranean it is one of the few autumn forage plants and helps with preparing for winter.
