Coltsfoot flowers from late February into April, long before leaves appear, and is above all a good pollen source; its nectar value lies in the moderate to medium range. It colonises bare ground, waste sites and roadsides and can therefore be found almost everywhere. For the colonies' spring build-up it is a welcome addition. Its flowers open only in sunshine.
