The native European Goldenrod flowers from July to October and provides good nectar and pollen. It grows on moderately fresh to dry, sandy or stony loam soils on open forest margins, dry grassland and in perennial beds. Because it flowers into October, it helps with the build-up of winter bees. It is markedly less vigorous than the introduced goldenrod species and easy to keep in the garden.
