The Common Hyacinth flowers in March and April with dense, strongly scented flower cylinders in white, pink or blue. It comes from Asia Minor and is planted in beds and window boxes. Outdoors the flower spikes become looser from year to year and thus more accessible for bees. It provides nectar and pollen early in the year. British measurements give around 37 micrograms of sugar per flower per day.
