The Bottle Gourd flowers from July to August with large white single flowers. They open in the evening, remain receptive through the night and only close around midday of the following day. It is therefore pollinated above all by moths and beetles; for the day-active honeybee only a short window remains in the morning. As a flow it therefore hardly matters, but insect visits are still necessary for fruit set.
