Bell Heather flowers in June and July. Its flowers are very rich in nectar and are considered good bee forage; besides the honeybee, bumblebees, short-tongued wild bees, hoverflies and butterflies visit them too. It grows in dwarf-shrub heaths on acidic, humus-rich, sandy-stony soils. As a flow, however, it plays hardly any role in Germany: its natural occurrence is limited to the far west along the left bank of the Lower Rhine, where it is considered severely endangered. A dedicated heather honey from it is harvested mainly in the British Isles.
