Ivy flowers from August to October and is thus often the last productive nectar source of the year. Only old, climbing or shrub-grown plants flower at all; young ground shoots produce nothing. The nectar value is good, the pollen value moderate to good, and both arrive exactly at the time of winter bee rearing. Important for practice: ivy honey crystallises very hard, which is why stores gathered in ivy country can pose an overwintering risk and should be replaced with feed in good time.
