Common Sage

Salvia officinalis

Common Sage flowers from May to July and provides good nectar but only little pollen. The flower has a hinge mechanism that presses the stamen onto the visitor's back as it flies in. It needs sunny, dry, calcareous sites and is found as a kitchen herb in almost every garden. For the apiary it is a good early-summer addition, as long as it is not cut back completely before flowering.
