Himalayan Balsam flowers from July into October and provides a very large amount of nectar as well as good, strikingly white pollen. On damp stream and river banks it forms dense stands and there continues to provide when hardly anything else is in bloom, which noticeably supports the build-up of winter bees. Bees return with their backs dusted white, which is easy to see at the hive entrance. However, it is an invasive alien species: deliberately establishing it as bee forage is prohibited and causes great ecological harm.
