Tormentil flowers from May to September with small yellow flowers which, as the only cinquefoil species, have just four petals. It grows on acidic poor meadows, in heaths and open woods. Its root turns red when cut and is used for herbal schnapps. A small but long-lasting minor flow. British measurements give around 33 micrograms of sugar per flower per day, a nectar yield of around 47 kilograms of sugar per hectare per year.
