The golden rain tree flowers in July and August with large, yellow panicles and then bears the inflated fruit capsules to which it owes its German name. It comes from East Asia and is planted as a heat-tolerant street tree. It flowers in the middle of the summer gap and is then visited very heavily, which makes it valuable for urban apiaries.
