Barberry
Berberis vulgaris
- Blütezeit
- May–June
- Nektar
- mittel
- Pollen
- sehr gut
The Barberry flowers from May to June in bright yellow racemes and provides good nectar with a medium pollen value. As a hedge plant it also fits well into small gardens, and bumblebees in particular visit it gladly. If an insect touches the stamens, they snap toward the style in an instant and press sticky pollen onto the visitor. In grain-growing areas it was long frowned upon and was nearly wiped out in places because it is an intermediate host of wheat rust.
