The Balkan anemone flowers in March and April with blue, white or pink star-shaped flowers and forms extensive carpets under trees and shrubs. It comes from south-eastern Europe and is planted as a tuber in autumn. The flowers open only in sunshine and then provide pollen, which the bees urgently need in early spring.
