The Field Bean flowers from May to July, but its nectar and pollen value is rated only moderate to medium. The nectar sits deep in the flower, and honeybees often only reach it after bumblebees have bitten through the side of the flower first. In addition, the nectaries on the leaf stalk release nectar without going through the flower at all. Grown as a field crop it stands in large stands and can then, despite its modest rating, provide a useful interim flow.
