The wooden frame in which a comb hangs. It makes the comb movable, which is what makes the whole of modern beekeeping possible in the first place.

Taut wire and an embedded wax foundation give it stability so the comb survives extraction. The spacing between frames follows the bee space, for which, depending on the source, roughly 6 to 9 millimetres are given, in practice usually 8 millimetres: narrower gets propolized shut, wider gets built up with comb.
Frames are marked with annual colours or drawing pins so that it is known when a comb is due for culling.
