The developmental stage between larva and finished bee, which takes place in the capped cell.
After the larva has lined its cell with a cocoon, the bees seal it with an air-permeable wax cap. Inside, the body is completely restructured: eyes, wings, legs and exoskeleton are formed.
This stage is the reason for the varroa problem. The mite female enters the cell shortly before capping and reproduces there, protected, on the pupa. Of the approved active substances, only formic acid reaches her there; otherwise brood-free periods or the removal of brood help.
