A thin, embossed sheet of wax that is fused into a frame as a building template. The bees draw out their cells on it, thereby building straight, load-bearing combs that can be extracted.
As a rule, the embossing is at worker-cell size, so that the bees build fewer drone cells. The foundation is fastened onto tensioned wire, so that the comb does not break during extracting.
Pay attention to the origin of the wax: residues from treatment agents accumulate in the wax cycle. Low-residue wax is the basis for clean honey.
