As soon as the cherry blossoms and the nectar flow starts, the colony gets its honey super. About six to eight well-occupied brood combs, roughly four-fifths of the box, is the rule of thumb. Better a few days too early than too late: if there is no room when the flow comes, the brood nest gets honey-bound and the swarming urge sets in.
A queen excluder between the brood chamber and honey super is standard, to keep the queen below. To help the bees take to the new space quickly, it helps to hang a partially drawn or uncapped honey comb up into it.
Important: from now on, no more treatment agents that could get into the honey. And fill the boxes so that the bees draw out the combs without gaps.
