The muskmelon flowers from June to August with small yellow flowers that are open for only a few hours. It comes from Africa and Asia and is grown in the open mainly in southern Europe. Without bee visits the fruits remain small and misshapen, which is why colonies are deliberately placed in cultivated fields.
