Kidney vetch flowers from May to August with yellow, densely clustered flower heads above woolly calyces. It grows on poor grassland, gravel and railway embankments and is sown for greening. It copes with very poor soils and provides good nectar there, where hardly anything else flowers. An important plant for dry sites.
