The spreading bellflower flowers from May to July with wide-open, pale violet funnel-shaped flowers in poor meadows and along roadsides. It is biennial and has become rare in many places due to early mowing. Its open flowers are easily accessible and provide pollen and nectar in the middle of the meadow flowering.
