The yellow star-of-Bethlehem flowers in March and April in floodplain forests, parks and old orchards and dies back as early as May. Its yellow star-shaped flowers only open in sunshine. It is one of the first open flowers of the year and provides pollen and some nectar just when the colonies are starting to rear brood.
