Common chickweed flowers all year round as soon as it is frost-free, and on mild winter days it is therefore sometimes the only open flower in the garden. It grows in beds, fields and tree pits and is regarded as a weed. Its tiny white star-shaped flowers provide pollen and some nectar and are taken when needed. British measurements give around 7 micrograms of sugar per flower per day, around 9,920 pollen grains per flower and a nectar yield of around 3 kilograms of sugar per hectare per year.
