Common skullcap flowers from June to August on banks, in reed beds and in wet meadows. Its blue-violet flowers sit in pairs in the leaf axils; the calyx bears a helmet-like cap on top. The flowers are narrow and are served mainly by bumblebees; honeybees visit them in passing. A small supplementary forage by the water.
