Dark mullein flowers from May to October and provides little nectar, but pollen in good quantity. It is biennial to perennial and grows along forest tracks, on banks and on rubble sites. Its flowers have violet-haired filaments and open one after another over months. As a pollen source it is useful over a very long period.
