The harebell flowers from June to September and provides moderate nectar with moderate pollen value. It is a delicate perennial of poor meadows, banks and rock ledges. Its hanging blue bells protect the pollen from rain. On poor grassland it yields throughout the summer and is a food source for specialised wild bees. British measurements give around 290 micrograms of sugar per flower per day, around 18,709 pollen grains per flower and a nectar yield of around 90 kilograms of sugar per hectare per year.
