Red campion flowers from April to October and provides moderate nectar with moderate pollen value. It is a perennial thirty to ninety centimetres tall and grows on woodland edges, in hedges and in damp meadows. The nectar sits in the calyx tube; with their short tongues honeybees can only partly reach it. Its very long flowering period nevertheless makes it valuable. British measurements give around 451 micrograms of sugar per flower per day, around 11,114 pollen grains per flower and a nectar yield of around 101 kilograms of sugar per hectare per year.
