The red horse-chestnut is a hybrid and flowers in May in parks, avenues and squares. It stays smaller than the white horse-chestnut and flowers a few days later. Its flowers provide nectar and pollen; the pollen is strikingly red and easy to recognise on the pollen loads. In towns it is a reliable May forage.
