The violet willow flowers very early, often at the beginning of March, and can be recognised by its blue-bloomed shoots. It comes from the Alps and river floodplains and is now planted in many places as bee forage. Because it opens even before the goat willow, it is often the first open flower far and wide on mild days in early spring.
