Niger flowers from August to October with small, bright yellow flower heads. It comes from Ethiopia, provides the niger seed known as bird food and is increasingly sown in catch crop and flowering mixtures. Because it flowers very late, it fills the gap between the summer flow and wintering and is heavily visited.
