The Macedonian Scabious flowers from June to September with dark red flower heads on thin, branched stalks. It comes from the Balkans and flowers tirelessly in the bed into autumn if faded flowers are removed. It provides nectar well and is one of the most reliable perennials for the summer gap. British measurements give around 49 micrograms of sugar per flower per day.
