Lavandin is a hybrid of true lavender and spike lavender and flowers in July and August. It is grown over large areas in Provence for oil production and forms the well-known violet fields there. The flowers provide plenty of nectar, which is why migratory beekeepers move in for the flowering. In the garden, too, it flowers longer and more profusely than its parent species.
