Bugle flowers from April to July and provides good nectar with a low pollen value. It is a perennial of moist meadows, woodland margins and lawns and spreads by runners into dense carpets. Its blue lipped flowers release a lot of nectar and are heavily worked. In spring it is one of the most productive low-growing meadow plants. British measurements give around 155 micrograms of sugar per flower per day, around 11,220 pollen grains per flower and a nectar yield of around 935 kilograms of sugar per hectare per year.
