Prickly Lettuce flowers from July to September with small yellow flower heads on roadsides, building sites and fallows. Its leaves stand vertically and align themselves north and south, hence the name compass plant. The flowers open only in the morning. On sealed urban fringes it is one of the last reliable summer forage plants.
